The smoke is aromatic and reminiscent of Islay, but with Japanese precision and balance. The aromas include green tea, lime zest, pine needles, and key lime pie. It has a brown sugar sweetness on the palate, with malt, lemon zest, gentle pepperiness, and bitter orange; the peat smoke building all the while, with hints of smoked nuts and Oreo cookies on the finish.
"Tsukuriwake", the art of diversity in whisky making goes beyond cask explorations. Diverse malt types, as well as a fermentation, distillation and maturation techniques, underpin House of Suntory's legendary Art of Blending. This diversity enables House of Suntory to produce numerous malt whiskies at the Yamazaki Distillery.
Islay peat often recognized as the distinctive character amongst Scotch, it brings out softer and sweeter mouthfeel than Scotland's mainland peat. In particular, the water and maturation process of Yamazaki results in a sweetness that balances the smoke, truly embodying Tsukuriwake that goes beyond the selection of ingredients but also on the process and soul place all combined to create the Yamazaki flavor.
