About Us

History:

Cameron and Lisa Renner, owners of Fortuna Liquors and Ferndale Liquors (Rocking LC, Inc.), were born and raised in California. Cameron’s family has been living and working in the Eel River Valley since the 1870’s. He graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1995 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University in business and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1999. After multiple combat tours in Iraq and being stationed in various places all over the world, Cameron wanted to come home to raise his children and work in Humboldt County. So, in 2012 he resigned from the Marine Corps at the rank of Major and began working the family business, Renner Petroleum. That same year he was set up on a blind date with the woman who would become the love of his life, wife, and business partner.

Lisa Renner grew up in Ukiah, CA, graduated Ukiah High School in 1991 and raised her two daughters there. She worked at the Mendocino Community Health Clinic for over 20 years.

In 2018 Cameron and Lisa were living in Ferndale and had the opportunity to purchase Ferndale Liquors and have been in the liquor store business ever since. Harris & K Market and Three Corners Market in Eureka were once part of “The Family of Stores” but were sold in 2022 to families born and raised in Eureka. Cameron and Lisa Renner bought “Beverage Plus” from Larry Montgomery and his family on June 1, 2024. Larry started Beverage Plus in 1989 and sold when he was ready for retirement after 35 years of ownership.

Philosophy:

We are NOT a corporate businesses! Large corporate stores and chains (far too common to be found in Humboldt County) exist for a single purpose… sucking dollars out of the community and making shareholders rich. We are NOT in business for this purpose. We love this place and want to do everything possible to keep our employees in good jobs, we want to buy and sell local products from local suppliers, and provide a wide variety of items from all over the world that will bring joy to the community. We want to do this with fair prices and exclude government tax welfare and subsidies like the large corporations receive at the expense of the tax payer.
